I can take or leave his fiction, but 'On Writing' made a big impact.Paul Burmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03794317430080282991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099666866629504207.post-19331538689452637772009-01-30T17:35:00.000+11:002009-01-30T17:35:00.000+11:00I'm the same Madison, I can't get away with King's...I'm the same Madison, I can't get away with King's writing, but his book On Writing I loved. A good insight. I think I'll give the only thing that counts a shot, as I'm a fan of both writers. (Well some of their work anyway.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099666866629504207.post-76990270221525959892009-01-30T03:03:00.000+11:002009-01-30T03:03:00.000+11:00You're quite right Paul! Many interesting comments...You're quite right Paul! Many interesting comments over at The View From Here. I have to agree with many of them. I don't like process books (how to) as much as books by writers about the process IN THEM. I love to hear about what inspires people and what has happened in their lives to make them such thoughtful and observant writers.

I too love Hemingway (like Sydney Nash, one of the commenters), and I've gotten a huge amount of enjoyment out of a book called "The Only Thing That Counts" which is a collection of letters written between editor Max Perkins and Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Thomas Wolfe. In reading their letters I gain insight into their worldviews, and am then able to understand how that comes out in their writing. It makes me think about my own worldview and how it affects my process.

Even though I don't enjoy reading Stephen King's novels, in a similar way I've gained a lot of insight from his book titled: On Writing.

Thanks for sending me the tip to check out The View From Here!Lynda Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14184072086095936772noreply@blogger.com
