Memorable moments

Magdalena Ball (of Compulsive Reader fame, and author and poet in her own right) made my day last Tuesday when she listed The Snowing and Greening of Thomas Passmore and Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Angel's Game as her two favourite books for 2009.  Nice one.  Thank you.
Visit Magdalena Ball's blog.

It's been a very good couple of weeks in that respect, and so I thought I should knock myself down to size a little by sharing a couple of photos that captured one of my adventures in America last year.  Here I am, after canoeing some of the way down the west branch of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, having been persuaded to head back upstream in order to tackle that bit of white water head-on.  Surfing against the current in a canoe almost always, in my experience, guarantees a good soaking.

And, while I'm at it, the friend I'm paddling with here doesn't confine his outdoor interests to canoeing, but is also an accomplished skier.  If you're interested in cross-country skiing, check out his website (http://www.crosscountryskipa.com/)and his blog.

Where is the fur hat?! You can't go canoeing without a Davy Crockett hat PB. Shame, shame on you!

I did in fact have a fur hat, Jane. A living hat. It comprised a family of chipmunks who, on realising that we were about to paddle against the flow of the rapids, unanimously voted to abandon their post and swim for the bank.

Very funny PB:)) Just the kind of joke I need when I've been up for several hours already! I should have been writing but I haven't quite got the words in my head for my Thomas post yet - I think that might come later today though:) I've been trying to think how I can get the words "I've got a tender behind" in it. Any suggestions?!

Ohhhh...those poor little chipmunks. Did they have little guitars and banjos like Alvin? I can imagine you all paddling down the river having a sing song like you've been on gas and air:)))

Now that's what I call a result. great review and being named in a top ten. Great, stuff. And a short story published. You're out the traps and flying for 2010 Mr Burman and long may it continue!

Looks like you were having a ball in the canoe, too. I could do with a bit of outdoor activity myself. seems like we've been indoors for a year with this bad weather.
